MOONBREAKER EMBRACES COMMUNITY FEEDBACK WITH ITS FIRST MAJOR CONTENT UPDATE

KRAFTON and Unknown Worlds remove in-game monetization and introduce fan-requested changes to Moonbreaker’s core gameplay, further positioning it as a true miniatures and tabletop experience

AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS - Oct. 28, 2022
- KRAFTON, Inc. and Unknown Worlds today announced that Moonbreaker’s first major content update is now live. This content update includes major adjustments to the game’s Early Access business model, introduces a series of gameplay changes to bring it more in line with traditional miniatures and tabletop games, and launches the second episode of the “Moonbreaker: Tales From The Reaches” audio drama series.

Since its Early Access launch on Steam last month, both KRAFTON and Unknown Worlds have been committed to evaluating player feedback, evidenced by the removal of Cargo Run Contracts the week after release. Today’s content update reinforces that commitment with several key community-driven game changes, the highlights of which are outlined below. A comprehensive breakdown of these changes can also be found HERE.

EARLY ACCESS BUSINESS MODEL ADJUSTMENTS

In summary, this content update removes all Moonbreaker’s in-game monetization. Pulsars (the game’s hard currency) have been removed and will no longer be available to purchase or exchange for in-game items during Early Access. As a result, the in-game store has been disabled and all Pulsar purchases will be automatically refunded via Steam. Founder’s Pack Pulsars are now replaced with a new Zax and Slopper Skin. Players who already own the Founder’s Pack will automatically receive the Skin.

Additionally, all Units (i.e., Captains and Crew) are now unlocked automatically with the base game. This means Booster Boxes have been removed and all new Units (at Common Rarity) added to Moonbreaker through future Early Access content updates will be automatically unlocked for all players at no additional cost.

Sparks now replace Blanks and Merits as the primary in-game currency. Players can use Sparks to upgrade a Unit’s Rarity. As a reminder, a Unit’s Rarity will continue to be a cosmetic upgrade only and will not impact gameplay.

Finally, Season Track progression is now a lot faster and includes several new, exciting cosmetic rewards.

CORE GAMEPLAY CHANGES

Based on strong community feedback, the content update also introduces a variety of core gameplay changes that see Moonbreaker further embrace its miniature and tabletop roots while increasing player agency. Firstly, players will now start with will all Crew available at the beginning of each match, removing the concept of “reinforcement” and “drawing” throughout the game. This adjustment is paired with a slight reduction to roster size, decreasing it from 10 to 8 (not inclusive of a Captain).

Speaking of Captains, Astra has been reworked to ensure she offers players a greater range of counter-play options. Additionally, Ship Assists have been reworked to offer players greater agency in how they deal with them:

  • Orbital Strike: At the start of a player’s NEXT turn, deal 3 damage to all units in area; cooldown lowered from 4 turns to 3 turns.
  • Cinder Infusion: New Keyword, Infused. Gain +1 Cinder every turn; Give target allied Crew Infused for 3 turns.
  • Plink: When activated, players can select a Unit whose health changed that turn and either restore health (if friendly) or deal damage (if an enemy).
  • Stowaway: When using this Ship Assist, a player’s “lowest cost” undeployed Crew will be replaced with one that costs +1 more Cinder to deploy.
  • Corrosive Particles: The radius of this assist will be reduced from 5 to 2, an 83% reduction.

NEW EPISODE OF “MOONBREAKER: TALES FROM THE REACHES” AUDIO DRAMA

The new content update also introduces the second episode of the “Moobreaker: Tales From The Reaches” audio drama series. This latest episode, “Zax’s Story,” is available in-game or on digital podcast platforms, including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, iHeart Media, Amazon Podcasts and Stitcher.

These Audio Dramas transport listeners to various locations across the Reaches – a tiny solar system with moons held in orbit by a scarce resource called Cinder – as they learn more about the game’s key characters and world. Moonbreaker’s Audio Dramas will feature many twists and turns as they tell an engaging long-form story that will unfold over many years. “Zax’s Story” is the second of three episodes that will be released throughout Moonbreaker’s inaugural season with additional episodes planned for each subsequent season.

MOONBREAKER PREMIERE PROGRAM

Finally, players can commemorate Moonbreaker’s Early Access launch with exclusive access to a special ‘Gloomside’ Crankbait Paint Job via the Moonbreaker Premiere Program. Those who register their KRAFTON IDs by Oct. 31 will secure access to the exclusive Paint Scheme when it becomes available soon.
