Amsterdam, Netherlands - 17 December 2021 - Starting today 16 PUBG Esports rosters will compete at The PUBG Global Championship (PGC) 2021 Grand Finals. 15 matches will be played over Friday 17 December, Saturday 18 December and Sunday 19 December where rosters will battle it out for a share of the more than $2 million USD prize pool. The LAN/online hybrid event - which launched on 19 November in Incheon, Korea - has hosted 32 PUBG Esports teams from across Europe, Americas, Asia and APAC.
Over the past month PUBG Esports rosters have participated in Weekly Survival tournaments to earn their place in the Weekly Finals. Teams who won the Weekly Finals received a large share of the weekly prize pool and were also guaranteed a spot at the PGC 2021 Grand Finals. At the end of the three weeks of Weekly Finals the nine highest teams on the Overall Leaderboard - who had not already earned a spot at the main event - progressed to the Grand Finals. On Thursday 16 December, the remaining 20 teams fought for the final four Grand Final Spots at the Grand Survival stage of the tournament.
The rosters who have qualified for the PGC 2021 Grand Finals are as follows:
- Europe: Team Liquid, Virtus.pro, HEROIC, Natus Vincere and ENCE
- Asia: Gen.G, GHIBLI Esports, NewHappy, Global Esports Xsset, Danawa e-sports, KAIXIN E-sports, Petrichor Road
- Americas: KPI Gaming, Spacestation Gaming and TSM
- APAC: Fury
All 32 teams who competed at PGC 2021 will also benefit from The Pick’em Challenge with 30% of net sales being added to the event prize pool.
Americas roster KPI Gaming were the most impressive team at the opening Weekly Finals. They secured 68 kills, the highest of the weekend, and took an important win in Match 9 on their way to finishing top of the leaderboard. Elsewhere Europe roster HEROIC’s Pag3 stood out as one of the strongest performing players as he coolly dismantled rivals across the map, and Team Liquid’s jeemzz from Europe gave fans a moment to remember with an explosive solo rampage where he took out four opponents whilst withstanding heavy pressure.
The second weekend of action saw a huge performance from Team Liquid who finished top of the pile and secured qualification to the Grand Finals. It was an intense fight to the end with both Team Liquid and Asia-based GNL ESPORTS finishing on level points - the tie breaker rule was then called into action to separate the two. They were trailed by Europe team Virtus.pro who would have been happy with their 48-kill weekend.
Asia roster Gen.G picked up three wins in the third Weekly Finals weekend to book themselves a place at the main event with 64 kills and 119 points. Europe team Natus Vincere finished in second place with an admirable two wins, 57 kills and 88 points. NewHappy (Asia), Global Esports Xsset (Asia), Dignitas (Americas) and Heroic (Europe) also claimed significant victories. A stand-out moment of the weekend was when Dignitas defeated Natus Vincere in a 3v4 showdown where their opponents had an area advantage.
The final four spots for the Grand Finals were secured at the Grand Survival stage on Thursday 16 December by Fury (APAC), TSM (Americas), KAIXIN E-Sports (Asia) and Petrichor Road (Asia).
The Grand Finals will commence from the 17 - 19th December with matches starting at 11am CET daily. All matches will be shown live on PUBG Esports’ official Twitch and YouTube channels.
