KRAFTON, Inc. has unveiled the PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS 2025 Roadmap, outlining its three key development priorities: Developing Exciting New Content, Enhancing the Live Service, and Building Long-Term Sustainability. This year, the company aims to expand gameplay experiences with fresh content, refine existing systems for greater stability, and lay a strong foundation to ensure the game’s longevity.
BUILDING LONG-TERM SUSTAINABILITY
To ensure the game’s longevity, PUBG is investing in new systems and technologies that will shape its future. In late 2025, PUBG will transition to current-generation consoles, bringing significant improvements to performance, FPS, map loading speeds, and overall graphical quality. This transition will optimize PUBG for modern hardware, addressing long-standing limitations and enhancing the overall experience for console players. The game is also preparing to adopt Unreal Engine 5, which will elevate graphical fidelity and create a more scalable development environment, ensuring PUBG remains visually impressive and technically adaptable for years to come.
Additionally, the launch of the PUBG UGC (User-Generated Content) project will allow players to create and share their own custom experiences, starting with a new TDM-style mode in Custom Matches. This initiative is designed to give players greater creative freedom and expand the ways they interact with the game.
ENHANCING THE LIVE SERVICE
KRAFTON is focused on creating a more unified experience across Normal Matches, Ranked, and Esports. By integrating key elements from Normal Matches into Ranked, the gameplay gap between the two modes will be reduced, ensuring a smoother transition for players looking to test their skills in a more competitive environment. To further enhance progression, a tier revamp is planned for June, making rank advancement feel more rewarding and meaningful.
Gunplay remains a top priority, with regular balance updates planned throughout the year. Every two months, balance patches will address key adjustments to the weapon meta, ensuring a dynamic and evolving combat experience. Additionally, an annual large-scale rebalancing will be introduced to shake up weapon usage and encourage diverse playstyles. Alongside these changes, underutilized weapons such as SRs, LMGs, and Handguns will receive improvements to increase their viability. New weapons and attachments are also currently in development, further expanding the arsenal available to players.
PUBG’s AI system is undergoing a fundamental transformation, making bots behave in a more realistic and strategic manner. AI opponents will react to the shrinking Blue Zone, take cover more effectively, and even deploy smoke grenades to obscure visibility in combat situations. These enhancements aim to make AI encounters feel more natural while ensuring a fair and engaging experience for all players.
DEVELOPING EXCITING NEW CONTENT
A major world update is planned for the end of the year, transforming existing maps to create new gameplay experiences while maintaining the essence of what players love. Rather than introducing an entirely new map, KRAFTON is reimagining old favorites to offer fresh challenges and strategic opportunities. Additionally, the Destructible Terrain feature is being introduced in Taego, Miramar, and Erangel, further deepening player-world interactions.
Beyond map updates, PUBG is expanding its arsenal with new vehicles, items, and gameplay features. Players will have access to a camouflage net to conceal vehicles, enhancing their strategic options. The Flare Gun UI and match logs are also being improved to provide clearer feedback during combat. A new level of interactivity is coming with the introduction of explosive gas tanks, which will release smoke upon detonation, adding another tactical layer to battles. For increased immersion, animal AI is being added to enrich the in-game environment.
The game will also see an expansion in Arcade modes and collaborative content. POBG (PLAYEROMNOM’S BATTLEGROUNDS) will return with new stages, while Project Cyclops, a roguelike mode built on the POBG framework, is currently in development. Additional content expansions like SLB: Miramar are also in the works. New partnerships with premium automotive brands and artists will further diversify PUBG’s collaborations, adding exclusive content to the game. The introduction of the Contender System, a high-end character system designed to enhance player individuality and immersion, will bring another layer of customization to the PUBG experience.
STRENGTHENING ANTI-CHEAT MEASURES
KRAFTON is doubling down on its commitment to maintaining a fair and competitive environment by introducing stronger anti-cheat measures. New detection and defense technologies are being developed to counter increasingly sophisticated cheating tactics. The team is also exploring ways to utilize Windows OS protection features to provide additional layers of security against exploitative software.
Machine learning models will be actively deployed to detect and counteract unauthorized software usage in real time, improving PUBG’s ability to identify and ban cheaters more effectively. Additional security measures are also in development to better protect player accounts, reducing the risk of hijacking and unfair gameplay practices.
