AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS - MAY 4, 2023 - The Grand Finals for the PUBG Global Series 1 (PGS 1) - a global PUBG Esports tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - will be taking place on 5 - 7 May, and feature 16 top rosters from around the world. Among the 16 teams in the Finals are Natus Vincere, HOWL, Twisted Minds and Acend from EMEA who will be fighting for a share of the $500,000 prize pool and PGS Points needed to secure a place at PUBG Global Championship 2023 (PGC 2023).
PGS 1 Group and Bracket Stage Recap
In the Winners Bracket, the top 8 teams, including EMEA’s Natus Vincere, the champions of PUBG Global Championship 2022 (PGC 2022), and HOWL, have qualified through to the Grand Finals. Natus Vincere, while having a strong start in the Group Stage, finished middle of the pack but picked up pace considerably in the Winners Bracket, finishing in the top position. They are looking very strong going into the Grand Finals.
HOWL has been having a phenomenal year so far. After winning the PUBG EMEA Championship: Spring (PEC: Spring) and qualifying for the PGS 1, the team made it through the Group Stage to the Winners Bracket by the skin of their teeth, with only a single point advantage. In the Winners Bracket, HOWL had a very convincing showing with a Chicken Dinner and a total of six podium finishes, faring better than some of the pre-event favorites. The roster finished the Winners Bracket in a very respectable 5th place, sharing the total point amounts with Cerberus Esports and Soniqs.
Two more EMEA teams, Twisted Minds, who took 3rd place at PGC 2022, and Acend, the runner-ups at PEC: Spring, qualified through the Losers Bracket. Twisted Minds seem to have finally found their game and finished Losers Bracket in a comfortable 1st place with only a single Chicken Dinner but an inordinate amount of frags. Acend had more of a mixed bag of Chicken Dinners and zero point matches but in the end they placed 7 points above their EU rivals FaZe Clan who failed to make it to the Grand Finals.
The Grand Finals will take place from 5 - 7 May and consist of a total of 18 matches, with six matches per day. The team with the highest ranking will become the champions of PGS 1. The total prize pool for PGS 1 is $500,000, with the 1st place team winning $80,000 and the remaining prize money being distributed based on the rankings.
The sales of the Team Edition Skins have been extended to May 17 and include skins made by four out of the eight Global Partner Teams - FaZe Clan, 17Gaming, Natus Vincere, and Petrichor Road.
